SB2: Response from Illustration student!!!

After sending our collaboration email to the students to other courses (Illustration, Comic & Concept Art and Animation), we got an email back from one Level 5 Illustration student who found the idea and concept interesting. After getting her reply, my and Jocel face-timed to generate draft basic content overview of what we want the publication to have, in order to give them a basic visualisation and idea of what we are intending the whole publication to be about.

Also, as we were talking we have naturally agreed that the publication will be centred and targeted towards creative and students in the uni, as most of the ideas that  we dropped drop referencing strongly towards aspects of the art culture and life. We also thought this would be a much fitting thing that must doing normal zodiac sign information, as if it was to be argued, this could easily be done by someone else and actually already been done through different mediums as well e..g apps, websites. However, making it more centred to a niche environment/demographic, gives it an opportunity to be unique and original and being able to stand on its own. Also, picking to create a publication as the medium for this concept, is very effective as it goes well with the existing ongoing projects and publication in the university such as NEXT magazine, as well as that if we were to distribute the magazine outside the university we can possibly make multiple copies of it and collaborate with a company or store in Leeds who would be willing to distribute it from their end.
After some discussions this is what we have came up with.

Content:
  • overview/intro of the sign
  • page pace broken up with illustrations?
  • creative compatibility
  • colour scheme, creative cloud compatibility
  • course compatibility -> which course you should collaborate with along with person in the course who is a compatible sign with you. *in-depthly talking about the different characteristics of the course.
  • live brief recommendations
  • quote of the month
  • how a sign behaves in certain situations: blogging, presenting, tackling a brief etc.
  • recommendations page: books with ISBN number, events happening locally, food, clothing
  • have all 12 signs within the pub and highlight the sign the book is on rn and the next edition.
Obviously, these are just very basic content overview that we like to get and have. However, upon researching more about zodiac signs itself we felt that these concepts/themes would work best for our publication. We decided to go more in detail with it when we meet up with the collaborator that we have, in order to also hear their thoughts and their ideas and suggestions as we know they would probably also have their own ideas and concepts in relation to their understanding about zodiac signs. When we meet with them we will explain to them the them that we are leaning into in order to sort out a definitive and uniform image and direction of ideas and concepts we could go further on.

Thoughts and Reflection:

I was really pleasantly surprised at how fast someone replied to us because I was really nervous on whether people would be willing to do it, and also because we have ditched the submission idea, we really needed someone to collaborate with now definitely and thankfully we do. Hopefully, we can meet up with them asap, as right we are communicating through email; having a face-to-face conversation would be much better as this would speed up process as well as get to know them better and have a better collaboration relationship in general.
