Shit Plug by Paul McCarthy & Jason Rhoades

Shit plug is a really interesting publication because it is such a random book filled with lots of different designs and illustrations. I also find it interesting how although the book have all these different seized pages and different paper stock, it still works together as a whole publication, which I think can be an example of what Jan van Toorn was saying about subjectivity in graphic design. Shit plug is a book which completely goes against so-called rules of publication or book designing by having these different sized paper and paper stock and also somehow kind of having a grid but not, because the pages don't necessarily have the same grid system that it's following how each page seems to have it's own grid system, where when all of the pages and put together it sill somehow works. Also, doing this kind of publication also shows a very playful and bright aesthetic to the book which gives it an even more interest and uniqueness to it which makes it stand out from other book publications. I may try and follow  this method of playfulness with grid systems as it seems to work well with very quirky themes. I'm thinking of taking inspiration from this for my fanzine publication as it involves lots of collages and very bright and interesting patterns and cut, perhaps it will make the publication look more fun and loud at the same time.
