STUDIO BRIEF 2: Final Publication

After making the second development for the publication, I showed it to my group mates to see which bits are needed to be improved. They didn't really say anything needs to be improved apart form some kerning details on the long paragraph centred on the cover, as well as make the illustrations alternate so the the pages don't look too cramped. Other than that, i just continued refining each mock up pages.  All the titles/heading are in our own typography whilst the body text is 'Lucida Grande'. The table of contents page show which pages include which genre's in order to give the visitors some guidance to the order of the genres. Also, the numbers on each genres will correlate to the numbers on the cassette displays in the actual exhibitor so that the visitors will know what genre they are looking that swell as the designers name and what level they are so they know who it's by; this makes it so much easier to have some kind of system to the exhibition as it's quite straightforward and it does t involve the visits asking what is and who is who when it comes to the actual exhibition.

At the back of the publication includes a 'Sound Glossary'. Just like a normal glossary it includes words corresponding to a page in the publication, however the words can be seen as trigger words or words which associate to a genre or feelings which can associate to a genre e..g if someone wants to listen to an 'ambient' genre they have to go to page 01-02 which is the folk genre which includes ambient songs and beat to it. Having this kind of unique system as a glossary will make it easier for the visitor to listen to a more specific genre that they want to listen to.

pull out sheet
In the middle of the publication is also a pull out sheet that includes all the objects that going to be displayed in the exhibition. Having the same layout and logic to the genres, the objects are also number coded with the genre and the name and level of the designer that made it. Its is also inspired by Darwin's table of species in 'on the origin of species', subtly hinting on the traditional and museum aspect that the exhibition is inspired from. The full out concertina can also have a quite dynamic characteristic adding to the uniqueness of the publication, as well as also hint on the 'evolution' aspect that links in the 'Origin' theme that we have.

The publication is printed out on brown ribbed paper as it fits with he museumy theme and aesthetic that we were aiming for. We also liked it's texture as it's quite rough and quite organic,/ just like the 'On the Origin of Species'. Also, thinking about the cost of production, it is very cheap (25p per a1) so it will definitely be easy and relatively cheap to print out 200 of these and also because they are stapled it can be very accurate and precise leading for a very clean cut publication design.
